Queen Maeve Festival presents a walking tour entitled “Exploring Sligo’s built heritage” which will take place on Sunday 5th May at 12pm. This will depart from the Famine commemoration monument in Quay Street car park and the route is level throughout with an easy/medium topography to navigate.
This walking tour will be delivered by Sean Martin FRAI, who has recently retired as a Sligo County Council Senior Architect (and fresh from his RTE Nationwide appearance). It will take around 90 minutes and will examine the place of Sligo’s 19th century architecture – both grand and modest, in the development of the town through the prism of strategic location, port, famine, recovery, prosperity, politics and the arts.
This will be a fantastic insight and of great interest to both locals and visitors alike.
