SLIGO IS OPEN – that’s the new message from Sligo Tourism this summer as the tourist season is reignited this month with hotels, restaurants and cafes opening their doors to the Irish tourism market with special offers, affordable holiday packages and more, all available to book at sligotourism.ie/offers/
It’s not just businesses that are open – Sligo boasts some of Ireland’s most extraordinary vistas; from the rolling mountain views of Knocknarea or the iconic tabletop mountain view of Benbulben, to the wide open beaches at Enniscrone, Rosses Point and Mullaghmore. From family reunions to time out with friends, the county offers the perfect backdrop to reconnect and enjoy the great outdoors this year.
Most recently, Sligo has also benefited from the global attention generated from the runaway success of Sally Rooney’s Normal People TV adaption which aired in late Spring. A substantial amount of the show was filmed in Co. Sligo including Streedagh Beach in North Sligo and Tubbercurry in South Sligo.
Key visitor destinations in Co. Sligo such as Eagles Flying Bird Sanctuary, The Model arts centre, the Yeats Building and Carrowmore Megalithic Tombs have all reopened along with many of Sligo’s great cafes, restaurants and activity providers across the county. Sligo Tourism Limited, the agency tasked with promoting tourism in the county, is now ready to embark on a major drive to encourage Irish people to take domestic breaks in Sligo this year.
According to Neil Faulkner, manager of Sligo Tourism: ‘It has been a very challenging year for everyone involved in the tourism industry. Over the last few months our worlds have shrunk, and we’ve found our lives limited to small spaces, small groups and small experiences. As humans, we’re naturally curious. We want to seek out new experiences. The last few months have left us with an uncertainty of how to live a bigger life in the realities of a Covid19 world. As a result, intent for holidays has been shaken but the desire still remains high.’
Our key message today is that Sligo Is Open; we are re-starting the tourism season and reminding the domestic tourism market of the great opportunities we provide here in County Sligo. We are open for business and we also have great open spaces. Along with a worldclass food offering, an exciting range of hospitality, arts and culture amenities we also have breathtaking walking trails and stunning landscapes, the roaring Atlantic ocean, wide open beaches and of course welcoming people, all within a short distance from Dublin.” Following on from the successful marketing campaigns in 2019 and early 2020, this new destination marketing campaign will highlight great accommodation and activity offers
