SUMMARY:Rogue Mahone
DESCRIPTION:The German band Rogue Mahone have been bringing Irish folk-punk to life for over 32 years\, performing songs by The Pogues\, The Popes\, and Shane MacGowan\, alongside their own originals and traditional tunes. Featuring mandolin\, banjo\, accordion\, guitar\, bass\, and drums – often joined by brass and guest musicians – they’ve played festivals and pubs across northern Germany\, supported acts such as The Rumjacks and The Mahones\, and now return to Ireland with Irish singer Eamonn Mullarkey. \nEAMONN is a vocalist from Sligo. He has been covering Shane’s songs with a very similar voice for many years and has collaborated with many Musicians as recently SHARON SHANNON and STEVE EARL. He is also the Lead Vocalist of the Sligo Punk Band CHURCH HOUSE CREEPERS. \nMembers of ROGUE MAHONE met EAMONN\, who also sang at Shane’s funeral\, by chance at the unveiling of Shane MacGowan‘s mural in Nenagh in October 2024. A few pints later\, they played some Pogues tunes in Phil Ryan’s Pub together\, what matched perfectly as they share the same passion for this music (all to be seen on FB\, INSTA and TIKTOK). So the idea was born and fired by public demand to do a little Ireland Tour in 2025 with Eamonn and play some Pogues-Tribute-Shows as a unique collaboration between a German band and an Irish singer\, of course\, also to honour Shane MacGowan and The Pogues. \nNow they are returning to start the St. Patrick’s Week in Eamonn’s homebase\, Sligo\, at the legendary Hawk’s Well Theatre.

SUMMARY:The Sunset Belongs to You - Portrait Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Model is delighted to present once more The Sunset Belongs to You – a series of portraits commissioned from two of Irelands most distinguished painters\, Mick O’Dea + Geraldine O’Neill. The portraits capture young people from diverse backgrounds living across County Sligo\, and were painted between 2022-23. Looked at together\, they provide a hopeful glimpse into the Ireland of the future. \nThe portraits have become part of The Niland Collection\, where they have taken on a meaningful presence alongside portraits of historic public figures\, activists\, artists and other changemakers. In this context\, the paintings demonstrate the importance\, equality and potential of each child to lead the way with confidence and vision towards a bright democratic future for Ireland. In commissioning the portraits\, The Model sought to challenge the ingrained traditional structures of portraiture to question who is reflected in a public art collection\, and who is overlooked. Sligo communities who have been under-represented in the past\, are made visible within the public collection of their local museum. \nMick O’Dea painted all 12 of his portraits over the course of one week in front of a live audience at The Model. During the sittings he engaged the children and the public in an open dialogue about the ideas that underpin portraiture. Taking a different approach\, Geraldine O’Neill painted each of her sitters over several months\, finalising a portrait through a slow and immersive engagement with each child and their family. \nThe Sunset Belongs to You is named after a painting by Jack Butler Yeats. It is an inclusive reflection of contemporary society\, in all its diversity and richness that will live on in Sligo’s municipal art collection as a historical document into the future.

It is a beautifully observed piece\, utterly simple and widely praised. The show is funny\, tender and at times downright daft. \nOriginally commissioned by The Hawk’s Well Theatre Sligo and Sligo Co. In 2016 it returned to NYC and also played to full houses over three weeks at the Tricycle Theatre in London. It played again at the Irish Arts Centre in NYC in Sept/ Oct 2018 and has been touring Ireland ever since. \nThe Man in the Woman’s Shoes also plays at the Art Deco Theatre\, Ballymote\, on Friday 20th February. Also at Art Deco you can catch Murfi’s acclaimed companion piece I Hear You and Rejoice on Friday\, 27 March. Completing the trilogy\, The Mysterious Case of Kitsy Rainey – the third in the series – brings Pat Farnon’s journey to an unexpected and poignant conclusion. This final instalment will be performed at the Art Deco Theatre on Saturday\, 25 April. \n“Astonishing…this is a high-top performance.” NEW YORK TIMES CRITIC’S PICK \n“A miniature masterpiece” The Times\, London \n“Extraordinary physical performance… sharp observational comedy” The Sunday Times \n\n\n\n\nSupported by
