DESCRIPTION:Sat. 4 Jul. 2026\, 3.30pm – 11.30pm \nScreening  |  Visual Art  |  Dance\nAdmission Free\, suggested donation of €10 with proceeds going to Medical Aid for Palestinians\nReferencing the 1935 novel They Shoot Horses\, Don’t They?\, which tells the story of gruelling dance competitions as a form of entertainment during the Great Depression\, they shoot horses was a disco dance marathon organised by the artist Phil Collins in 2004 with a group of young people in Ramallah\, Palestine\, during the Second Intifada. \nFilmed in real time over the course of eight hours\, the dancers pass through unfolding stages of elation\, joy\, fatigue\, exhaustion\, and endurance to a soundtrack of pop\, rock and dance hits from the 1960s on. \nSpeaking to both the hardships and the resilience of living under the decades-long illegal occupation by the state of Israel\, they shoot horses centres dancing as an act of resistance in the face of daily atrocities\, and as a fragile yet inextinguishable anticipation of liberation to come. \nPhil Collins is an acclaimed visual artist\, filmmaker\, community organiser\, and educator who lives in Berlin and Wuppertal. But if you were paying close attention\, you might have picked up a clue in their first single the magnificent ‘Gin House’ as to Andy’s future musical collaborations. \nSince the early days Andy has gone on to work with Eric Clapton\, George Harrison\, Bob Dylan\, Jimi Hendrix\, David Crosby\, The Band\, Elton John\, Roger Waters\, David Gilmour\, The Who\, BB King\, Joe Cocker\, Steve Winwood\, Linda Ronstadt\, Emmylou Harris\, Joe Satriani\,\, Jeff Beck\, The Impressions\, Lonnie Donegan\, Mary J. DESCRIPTION:A remarkable milestone in local theatre is set to be celebrated this April as The Phoenix Players mark an incredible 80 years on stage with a vibrant and nostalgic anniversary exhibition. \nTaking place in St. Brigid’s Hall\, this special event promises to bring audiences on a journey through eight decades of drama\, laughter\, creativity\, and community spirit. Running from 12–8pm on Saturday 25th April and 12–3pm on Sunday 26th April\, the exhibition is free to attend and open to all. \nVisitors can expect far more than a simple display. This immersive exhibition will shine a spotlight on the rich history of the group\, with each decade carefully curated to tell its own story. From newspaper clippings and vintage posters to cast and crew photographs\, the evolution of the Phoenix Players will be brought vividly to life. \nA treasure trove of props\, costumes\, and memorabilia from past productions will be on display\, alongside some stories of accolades earned over the years. For many\, it will be a chance to reminisce — and for others\, an opportunity to discover the legacy of one of the area’s most enduring drama groups. \nAdding to the experience\, a dedicated audio-visual reel will showcase snippets from productions across the decades\, capturing unforgettable moments from the stage. Visitors will even have the unique chance to step onto the boards themselves\, exploring old props and getting a true feel for life behind the curtain. \nOf course\, no theatre story would be complete without the tales that happen offstage. The exhibition will also feature funny stories\, backstage mishaps\, and behind-the-scenes chaos — the moments that audiences don’t always see but which make theatre so special. \nThe celebrations continue on Saturday evening\, 25th with a social gathering in Cawley’s Hotel\, where food\, drink\, and storytelling will take centre stage.
