DESCRIPTION:Gatehouse bring their fantastic show to the Coleman Music Centre in Gurteen on Saturday 8th June with the concert starting at 8pm. \n“The term supergroup is perhaps over-used in some contexts\, but there’s no doubting the pedigree of the Gatehouse line-up.” Irish Music Magazine \nGatehouse are an Irish traditional band. The four members are Rachel Garvey (Vocals)\, Jacinta McEvoy (guitar and concertina)\, John McEvoy (fiddle and mandolin) and John Wynne (flute and whistles). \nSince getting together the band have gained a reputation for their tasteful interpretation of traditional songs and vibrant instrumentals\, combining “masterful technical proficiency” with “vocal numbers where the sparkle glows”.  The band have toured extensively\, drawing audiences into their world of infectious rhythms and soothing vocals. He returns to The Model with an acclaimed run on the RTE Lyric FM show Vespertine under his belt and wind in his sails! Dónal’s extended Backstory sets are like alternative guides to the musical universe with no stone left unturned in his mission to unearth gems from every musical hotspot the world over. \nWith special guest Hewan Mulugeta. \nDónal Dineen’s Backstory Dances have gone from strength to strength recently with a storied residency at the Commercial Rowing Club in Dublin continuing to hold down an exalted position within the capital’s underground dance scene. \nAs well as that\, a series of acclaimed stages curated by him at Irish festivals including The Cambium at All Together Now made 2023 another year to remember for both him and Backstory. \nThe impetus to start the night back in 2015 stemmed from his desire to find a home for the kind of dance music fire that he was unearthing in his search for tunes in dusty basements of record stores worldwide to write about for his Sunken Treasure column in the Irish Times.\nIt began as a project to gather together all the sounds he was collecting on vinyl from every part of the world and became a place for the like-minded to revel in the joy of music and the uniquely special experience of discovering it together on a dance-floor. The unerring attention to detail on the quality of the music has seen its reputation soar to become something of a touchstone for discerning dancers both in Dublin town and further afield.

DESCRIPTION:Shaskeen bring their talent and energy to the Coleman Music Centre in Gurteen on Saturday 18th May at 8pm.  The band is made from wonderful musicians including; \nEamonn Cotter \nHe comes from a fine musical family in Co Clare.. He plays flute and tin whistle and also a master teacher of these instruments. Eamonn has played with St.Flannan’s & the Tulla Ceili Bands and also toured with them. Eamonn is renowned as very fine maker of the traditional concert wooden flute “Cotter Flutes” \nTom Cussen \nTom Cussen plays tenor banjo and mandolin\, originally from County Limerick\, now a long time resident of Galway. As well as being The Band Leader\, Tom is the maker of the renowned Clareen banjos. Tom and Tony have recorded an album together called “There is Always Room in Our House” featuring banjo and saxophone. \nGeraldine Cotter \nGeraldine Cotter is a native of Ennis\, Co. Clare. Geraldine is a well-known teacher and performer on both the tin whistle and piano. She has published two best selling tutors; the first in 1983 for the tin whistle and in 1996 Seinn an Piano\, the first of its kind for traditional piano. \nIn 2002 she launched her first solo album Piano+ and in 2006 Rogha\, a tune book with accompanying play-a-long CD. She has recorded on numerous CDs including with her brother Eamonn\, Catherine McEvoy\, Dympna O Sullivan\, Peadar O’Loughlin\, Maeve Donnelly\, Mary MacNamara\, Eileen O’Brien\, Tom Cussen and Tony Howley. As well as with Shaskeen she has performed on stage with Martin Hayes\, Liz Carroll\, John Carty\, Patrick Ourceau\, Joe Burke\, Noel Hill\, Tulla and Kilfenora Ceili Bands and Moving Cloud. She is currently a researcher\, teacher and lecturer at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in the University of Limerick. \nPatsy McDonagh \nPatsy McDonagh who plays accordeon\, is playing in the band for the last 15 years comes from the Connemara Gaeltacht. Patsy has played with many bands and folk groups down through the years including the Corrib Ceili Band and Mulhaires Ceili Band. He has also toured many times in USA as well as Germany and France. Patsy is a selftaught musician and now spends a lot of time teaching music to young people. \nKatie Theasby \nKatie was born in London in 1976 into a very musical family as her father\, Paul Theasby\, was the fiddle player with Dingle Spike\, a London based Irish band. Her mother\, Gloria Pahad\, who was involved with the African National Congress\, was a great influence on her singing and taste in music. Katie was singing in the South African Xhosa language from an early age. \nKatie feels very lucky to have grown up both in the London/Irish music scene as well as visiting Kilfenora\, Co. Clare\, several times a year where she was joining sessions on a regular basis.\nA self taught singer and flute/whistle player\, Katie started her performing career in London\, where she played with Ron Kavana’s band Alias for a couple of years around pubs\, clubs and festivals\, including an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival at the age of 14. Kilfenora became Katie’s permanent home in 1995 and she has been playing in sessions and festivals around County Clare and further afield since then. During that time\, she was lucky to have played with incredible musicians such as Tommy Peoples\, Kitty Linnane\, Paddy Mullins\, Sean Tyrrell\, JJ Conway and many others. \nDave Sanders\n\nDavid originally from Kilnaboy\, is now living in Ennis in County Clare. David purchased his first fiddle at the age of nine from Mrs Whyte\, and learned his trade from Gus Tierney and Tony Linnane. He has played and or recorded with varying bands through the years most recently with The Wingers\, and also Turloughmore Ceili Band\, Kilfenora Ceili Band and St Flannans Ceili Band among others. \nMary Liddy \nMary\, originally from Newmarket on Fergus and now living in Ennis\, Co.Clare. She comes from a traditiona Irish musical family\, playing with other members of her family in the Shannonside Céilí Band from an early age. Mary\, a concertina player\, spends a lot time in her locality teaching music lessons to young musicians on a variety of instruments. \nMary has played with the Turloughmore Céilí Band for many years\, recording 3 CDs Seven Streams\, The Bees Wing and The Green Road with Seán Ó’Sé. Mary has toured extensively through Europe\, the USA & China. \nJohnny Donnellan \nJohn Donnellan from Kilmaine\, a small village on the Mayo/Galway border. John was surrounded by traditional Irish music at an early age. His uncle James Walsh taught him his first tune on the melodeon at the age of 8 and remains an influence on his style of music. \nIn 1981 John bought his first bodhran and has continued to develop his styles and techniques ever since\, winning six major bodhran titles in the meantime. John has also developed a unique technique to his playing by attaching a block to his bodhran making a distinctive sound when playing. DESCRIPTION:The Model Sligo is delighted to present a very special live Late Night event with Roamer. Roamer brings together four of Ireland’s most internationally active improvising musicians. DESCRIPTION:Seoid\, a collaboration of the traditional multi-instrumentalists Kerrie Herrity\, Kenny Donagher\, John Dwyer and Fiachra Guihen\, have been performing as Seoid for 2 years now with their eclectic mix of trad tunes and newly composed instrumental material. They have a lively style of traditional music rooted in the Sligo\, Roscommon and Leitrim flute and Fiddle tradition which has delighted crowds locally\, across Ireland and the UK. The band has been featured in multiple radio\, live streams and television performances over this time most recently on the RTE “Fleadh Cheoil” series 2023. \nKerrie was introduced to music and dancing by her parents at an early age in Luton\, the melting pot of Irish culture in the UK. After winning the All-Ireland Senior Banjo Kerrie moved home to Sligo continuing to play and teach traditional music. Her compositions are inspired by the rugged landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way\, some of which featured on the live streamed “Fleadhfest” in 2021 and on her album ‘Box and Banjo ‘\, with box player Kenny Donagher. \nKenny Donagher is an accordion player who from a young age played with his family for concerts\, céilithe\, at fleadhanna and later on radio and television.  Kenny performs with blues\, cajun\, country and folk bands playing keyboard\, blues harmonica and backing vocals\, as well as arranging and composing music. In 2015 he engineered and produced the album in with Kerrie Herrity which was launched at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Sligo which featured on Fleadh TV that year. \nJohn comes from Gurteen\, County Sligo\, where his interest in traditional music was influenced\, encouraged and nurtured by his late grandmother ‘Babs’ Dwyer and some of the all-time greats…Peter Horan\, Tom McGowan\, Kevin O’Brien\, Andy Davey\, to name but a few. John’s driving high energy reels and Jigs on the flute are a complete contrast to his wonderfully sensitive renditions of slower contemporary traditional melodies of Joanie Madden and Steve Cooney. \nFiachra hails from between Keadue\, Co. Roscommon and plays whistle\, flute\, harp and guitar. He is an innovative soloist\, arranger and composer. Highlights included completing the course with the University of Limerick Traditional Music Masters Programme and winning the prestigious Senior Harp competition in the O’Carolan harp festival in Keadue\, County Roscommon. He performs regularly at sessions\, concerts and gigs and had made multiple radio and television appearances with numerous artists. \n

DESCRIPTION:Formed in 2019\, Glór na dTonn are a young Céilí Band (with half Sligo and half Mayo membership and one from Waterford)\, who strive to produce a lively Connaught style of dance music inspired by some of Connaught’s finest musicians such as the legendary James Morrison and Martin Wynne. \nThe name Glór na dTonn came about as the band members hail from the beautiful coastal counties. Glór na dTonn are the current reigning Connaught champions and silver medallists at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in 2023. Anuas ar sin\, is logainm áitúil an t-ainm Glór na dTonn a chuaigh go mór i bhfeidhm ar an mbanna. \nBróga Briomhar Dancing School is a Sligo based Sean Nós dancing school run by Eiméar Mulvey. They hold weekly dance classes for tots\, kids\, teens and adults all around the county. Eiméar is an all ireland dance champion herself and teaching the oldest form of traditional dance in Ireland she and her dancers will combine with the band to provide a display that will knock some sparks out of the rig for all to enjoy! \nThey will be performing in Queen Maeve Square on Sunday 5th May.

SUMMARY:Tom Robinson
DESCRIPTION:Tom Robinson is a British songwriter and broadcaster born in 1950. His music career began in London with the acoustic trio Café Society\, whose eponymous 1975 album was produced by Ray Davies of The Kinks and sold less than 500 copies. He then formed the Tom Robinson Band (TRB) who were early supporters of Rock Against Racism and Amnesty International. Unusually for the time\, Tom was also a prominent advocate for LGBT equality. \nTRB enjoyed chart success in the UK with 2-4-6-8 Motorway\, Don’t Take No For An Answer and Up Against The Wall and a BBC ban for their song Glad To Be Gay. The band’s debut album Power In The Darkness – produced by Chris Thomas – went gold in the UK and Japan but the follow-up\, TRB TWO (produced by Todd Rundgren)\, was less successful and the band broke up in 1979. \nTom subsequently wrote co-songs with Elton John for his albums 21 At 33 and The Fox while forming his third band\, Sector 27 whose eponymous debut album was produced by Steve Lillywhite in 1980. While enjoying only modest success in the UK\, the band achieved cult status in New York. In 1981 they played Madison Square Garden with The Police and toured the US extensively before splitting later that year. \nAs a solo artist\, Robinson had further UK Top 40 hits in 1983 with the singles War Baby and Atmospherics: Listen To The Radio (which Tom co-wrote with Peter Gabriel). In 1987 his album Still Loving You was a hit in Italy\, resulting in an appearance at the San Remo Festival and the same year he also made his debut as a music radio DJ on the BBC World Service. During this period Tom co-wrote several songs with Dan Hartman and also with Manu Katché for his album It’s About Time. \nBetween 1992-1996 Robinson released a trilogy of albums on the acclaimed UK folk/roots label Cooking Vinyl. The last of these\, Having It Both Ways\, reflected the fact that he had married his female partner in 1990 and now identified as bisexual. Around the same time his career as radio broadcaster began to take off: Robinson went on to host programmes on all eight of the BBC‘s national radio stations and win two gold Sony Academy Radio Awards. \nHe was on the founding team for alternative music station BBC Radio 6 Music when it launched in 2002 and figured prominently in the campaign to save the station when it was threatened with closure in 2010. Tom currently hosts three shows a week at BBC Radio 6 Music where he has become known as a champion of new emerging artists via BBC Introducing. He also hosts his own music blog for independent artists at Fresh On The Net. \nIn 2015 Robinson released Only The Now – his first new studio album in almost 20 years – recorded with violinist and award-winning record producer Gerry Diver. The album includes guest appearances by Nitin Sawhney\, John Grant\, Lisa Knapp\, Swami Baracus\, Colin Firth\, Martin Carthy\, Nadine Shah\, Billy Bragg\, TV Smith and Sir Ian McKellen.

DESCRIPTION:Shane Beirne & Friends take to the stage at the Queen Maeve Festival on Friday 3rd May in Queen Maeve Square right in the heart of beautiful Sligo town. \nHailing from Carrick-on-Shannon and playing with fantastic musicians from Sligo and the west of Ireland\, Shane made his debut at Electric Picnic in 2022. \nHe has been grafting his way through the music industry since the age of 11\, teaching himself both guitar and piano. Over the last 2 years\, he’s really made a name for himself\, writing with Pa Sheehy of Walking on Cars fame and various successful Irish acts as well going viral which kickstarted his music career in 2018 on various different media outlets. \nMeetings with Atlantic Records from NYC and then eventually signing with Hasard Records based in Switzerland this year.
