SUMMARY:Mammary Mountain (VR experience) Tara Baoth Mooney\, Camille Baker\, Maf’j Alvarez
DESCRIPTION:To mark Daffodil Day 2025 Hawk’s Well Theatre hosts Mammary Mountain (VR experience) by Sligo based artist Tara Baoth Mooney\, Camille Baker\, and Maf’j Alvarez. \n Tara Baoth Mooney will also talk about the experience in an informal panel conversation with special guests on Sunday at 6pm. \n Mammary Mountain is an intimate immersive story and embodied haptic experience that explores dis-ease within the body and its relationship to the broader context of the land through the breast cancer journey. These pressing themes and social realities are explored through the prism of artist Tara Baoth Mooney’s experience of breast cancer\, interwoven with patients’ and survivors’ stories of their cancer treatment\, recovery and post treatment trauma. \n The result is a piece of work with many deep roots\, bringing together the personal and the collective\, the abstract and the representational\, in an intimate and far-reaching investigation of eco-psychosocial models of human-landscape interaction. The work hopes to ignite new public engagement\, validate survivors’ experiences and inform others\, ultimately resulting in a more nuanced empathic and holistic understanding of the breast cancer treatment experience. \n Mammary Mountain has previously exhibited at Venice International Film Festival in Italy\, Digital Cultures Festival in Poland\, BFI London Film Festival in the UK\, and Art + VR Festival in the Czech Republic. \n About the Artists \n Tara Baoth Mooney is an interdisciplinary artist whose work responds to events past and present that explore lived experience and the inter-relationship of people with daily ritual\, plants\, nonhuman life forms and objects within their respective ecologies and practice. \n Camille Baker is a maker of participatory performance and immersive artworks\, through expressive non-verbal communication\, extended embodiment and presence in real\, mixed reality and interactive artworks\, using XR\, haptics\, wearable devices and mobile media. \n Maf’j Alvarez is a digital media artist and creative technologist living in Brighton\, UK. SUMMARY:Tim O'Brien & Jan Fabricius
DESCRIPTION:Old friends join forces to present an evening of acoustic roots music.\n Multi Grammy winner Tim O’Brien has traveled the world for the past 50 years with his own mix of American folk\, bluegrass\, blues\, and Celtic sounds. Now O’Brien and his wife\, mandolinist and singer Jan Fabricius team up with iconic traditional players Seamie O’Dowd and Dermot Byrne for Irish dates early in 2025. \n O’Brien is a preferred sideman for people like Mark Knopfler and Steve Earl\, and his original songs have been covered by Garth Brooks and the Dixie Chicks. Notable recordings include the Dylan covers of “Red on Blonde”\, the Grammy winning folk of “Fiddler’s Green”\, and the Appalachian / Irish collaboration “The Crossing”. In recent years his main performing and songwriting partner is his wife Jan Fabricius who adds her vocals and mandolin to O’Brien’s guitar\, fiddle\, and vocal. Their sweet vocal blend and co-written songs feature prominently on the recent O’Brien releases “He Walked On” and “Cup of Sugar”. \n A new recording of songs co-written with veteran songsmith Tom Paxton is currently in production. Joining the Nashville duo are renowned Irish musicians Dermot Byrne on accordion and Seamie O’Dowd on guitar\, fiddle\, bouzouki and vocals. O’Dowd\, from Sligo\, and Byrne\, from Donegal\, grew up in musical families and went on to renown in the trad world in their collaborations with Dervish (O’Dowd)\, Altan (Byrne)\, and a veritable who’s who of the genre. In concert\, the quartet features selections from O’Brien’s extensive repertoire of traditional and original music\, with regular steps into the spotlight by Byrne\, Fabricius and O’Dowd

SUMMARY:The Days of Trees
DESCRIPTION:In this highly original\, IFTA Award-winning feature documentary\, Tomás\, a middle-aged film producer\, embarks on a journey of discovery with his friend and colleague\, film director\, Alan. As they progress\, we witness first-hand Tomás’s unearthing of fresh and startling childhood happenings which had somehow eluded his memory. What follows is a profound pilgrimage towards uncovering how sporadic crises in adulthood\, amidst an otherwise ‘normal’ life\, had their roots in sophisticated sexual abuse by Christian Brothers in the late 1960s.\n There is considerable beauty in this psychological excavation\, the shadowy black and white palette lending intimacy to the unflinchingly honest testimony. This is the story of a man\, not seeking vengeance\, but seeking to transcend the trauma of his troubled past\, ultimately finding redemption. \n The Days of Trees reunites director Alan Gilsenan and producer Tomás Hardiman to complete the third in their loose trilogy with the acclaimed Meetings with Ivor and The Meeting.
