SUMMARY:Motorbike Poker Run
DESCRIPTION:Sligo Lions Club Motorbike Poker Run – Charity Fundraiser \nOn Sunday\, 27th September 2026\, the streets of Sligo will once again come alive with the roar of engines and the spirit of community as Sligo Lions Club hosts its second Motorbike Poker Run. This unique charity event invites motorbike enthusiasts from near and far to take part in a scenic ride across the region\, collecting cards at checkpoints along the way\, with prizes awaiting the best and worst poker hands at the finish. \nBut this isn’t just for riders. We welcome the public to join us at Queen Maeve’s Square\, where dozens of gleaming machines will be on display. Families\, friends\, and bike lovers of all ages can meet the riders\, enjoy the spectacle\, and share in the excitement of the day. \nBehind the fun lies a serious purpose. Sligo Lions Club is built on the belief that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things through volunteering. This year\, we are supporting Barnardos in their work. Barnardos is Ireland’s leading children’s charity\, helping children to be the best they can be. They do this through early intervention\, by working with families\, and by supporting the children who need them most. We can only do this with your support. \nFor over 30 years\, the Sligo Lions Christmas Food Appeal has supported families in need across County Sligo with vouchers and hampers. This year\, we will split the money raised between these two deserving causes. \nBy taking part—whether riding\, spectating\, or simply donating—you’ll be helping us continue these vital projects. Join us for a day of community\, charity\, and chrome. Together\, we can turn passion into impact. \nDate: Sunday\, 27th September 2026\nRegistration: 10.30 am\nLocation: Queen Maeve’s Square\, Sligo\nFirst bikes away: 11.00 am\nRoute distance: 110 km\nRoute: A route map showing directions and all stops will be provided at registration.\nCoffee stop: Approximately halfway through the route.\nEntry fee: €20 per bike

SUMMARY:Remembering the Armada Festival
DESCRIPTION:Remembering the Armada Festival in County Sligo\, held from 17th to 20th September\, is a unique cultural and heritage event that brings history vividly to life along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Centred around the village of Grange and the dramatic shores of Streedagh Beach\, the festival commemorates the tragic events of 1588\, when several ships of the Spanish Armada were wrecked off the Sligo coast during violent Atlantic storms . Visitors can immerse themselves in a rich programme of activities including guided heritage walks\, live music and concerts\, historical talks\, cultural performances\, and food experiences celebrating both Irish and Spanish traditions. The festival also features moving commemorations at the Armada wreck sites\, honouring the lives lost while highlighting the deep historical ties between Ireland and Spain. SUMMARY:13th Adaptation Film Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Thu. 16 – Sun. 20 Sep. 2026\n\nScreening in Leitrim and Sligo\nFor the first time in its thirteen years\, Adaptation takes a sharp international turn while maintaining its commitment to Irish screen adaptations and the growing body of cinema from our part of the North West. We are delighted to celebrate some of the key adaptation work of German Oscar-winning filmmaker Volker Schlöndorff from his sixty-year long career. Leitrim’s focus on Cyprus as part of the Irish EU Presidency allows us to screen the Sundance 2026 winning work of director Myrsini Aristidou. \nPat Murphy\, a trailblazing director for women in Irish cinema in the 1980s\, reprises her take on James Joyce and film adaptation. Pat will also deliver a workshop focusing on collaboration in filmmaking. The local and the international go hand in hand in our opening night event: a series of short film adaptations by a number of North Leitrim’s filmmakers. \nThe festival culminates with writer Colm Tóibín in conversation with friend and collaborator Volker Schlöndorff. \nVenues\nThe Glens Centre\, Manorhamilton\nThe Model Cinema\, Sligo\nManorhamilton Library\nSligo Youth Theatre \nwww.cinemanorthwest.ie

SUMMARY:Pulled Studio Community Day
DESCRIPTION:Pulled Studio Community Day | ATU Sligo Block G (Innovation Centre) \nJoin us in the studio for some communal printing on Saturday 5th September from 12noon to 3pm\, open to artists and the public alike. This large-scale\, collaborative printmaking session brings together local artists\, printmakers and members of the public around a shared 10-metre roll of fabric. Using a selection of pre-made stencils and block-printing techniques with fabric inks\, participants will contribute their own marks\, patterns and imagery to create a single evolving piece of artwork. \nThe session will provide an informal opportunity for local artists and printmakers to connect\, experiment and share techniques\, while inviting members of the public to try their hand at printmaking in a relaxed\, accessible setting. As the fabric is gradually transformed through the contributions of many different hands\, the finished work will become a visual record of collective participation and the creative energy of the local community. \nThis event is free\, supported by Sligo County Council Community & Voluntary Grant
