This is a family fun rink \nDo you have Skating Aids for Kids\nYes\, we have small polar bear chairs which an adult can push while the child can sit on. These are on a first come first served basis and only available to children \nHow long do Sessions last?\nAll sessions last 45 minutes and will start on the hour. \nIs there a Carers rate?\nCarers go free with a carers card. \nWhat age groups (& Children Age) do you cater for?\nThere is no minimum age\, but kids must be of an age so they are able to walk prior to trying to skate\, use a skate polar bear (skating aid) or being able to use double blades over their shoes. \nWhat Skate Sizes do you have?\nWe have a skate size Child & Adult to suit all foot sizes. \nWe will also have a small number of double blades for kids (this are strap on double blades that go over their shoes)\, which means it’ll be like walking on the ice for very young children. \nWhat should I wear for ice skating?\nWear warm clothes\, gloves\, and thick socks. They held their second festival in November 2024 and they look forward to welcoming both new and returning choirs in 2025. \nThis year they are excited to announce extra competitions to include Primary school and Children’s choirs\, Junior and Senior youth choirs\, as well as their competitions for Secondary schools. \nThey are delighted to collaborate with Sing Ireland in offering a Special Bursary Award to a conductor in the secondary school competitions to attend Sing Ireland’s 45th International Choral Conducting Summer School.

DESCRIPTION:New Home for Local Crafters and Traders \nSligo’s vibrant market scene is making a comeback. Following the closure of a large Sunday market earlier this year\, dozens of local artisans\, producers\, and craftspeople have been left without a home. Now\, a new initiative is stepping in to fill the gap. \nThe Sligo Indoor Market at The Canopy will officially on Sunday\, 28th of September\, in the heart of Sligo town. \nThe idea began in April when Berenice Beukes hosted an evening market mixing retro food\, music\, and clothing. That momentum quickly evolved into a one-off Sunday market at the Yeats Building and Courtyard\, where many former Strandhill stallholders reunited with each other and their customers. The response was fantastic from both the traders and customers. \nTo bring the project to life\, Berenice partnered with Clodagh S. Higgins — a Business Coach and owner of local Social Media Agency – Sligo Hub. Clodagh co-ordinated communications with stallholders and approached The Canopy\, who embraced the idea of giving Sligo’s crafters a new home in the heart of the town centre. \nThe response was overwhelming with over 87 applicants who were eager to trade. To start the market will have 24 stalls and hopefully there will be space to grow in the future. Messages of support have been coming through from stallholders over the past few weeks as we get closer to opening day – one trader said “It’s brilliant to see such a large response and I think the Canopy is going to be a great success and well done to all involved.” \n“When the large one closed\, the community lost more than just a market — it lost a meeting place for the people of Sligo. The Canopy gives us a chance to rebuild that energy right in the centre of town\, weatherproof and warm. We are truly grateful that the owners of The Canopy were so accommodating and like us\, value the importance of having a weekly market in Sligo town.” said co-organiser Clodagh S.Higgins. \n“We are delighted to be able to host the indoor market. This is an exciting initiative and further underlines our commitment to assisting local businesses” said owner of The Canopy – Neil Monahan\nThe Canopy’s central location offers both locals and visitors an easy way to explore Sligo’s creative scene\, coffee culture and shop unique\, handmade goods. You can expect to find stalls of Jewellery\, Art\, Clothing\, Crochet\, Candles\, Vinyl\, Biltong\, Baked treats\, Photographic Art\, Knitwear\, Skincare\, Wood Art\, 3D Printing plus much more. \nThe market will run every Sunday leading into Christmas.

DESCRIPTION:The remarkable transatlantic life and legacy of William Bourke Cockran will be celebrated in Sligo this November through a special exhibition and conference exploring his enduring influence on Irish\, American\, and world affairs. \nThe commemorative events will begin with the official opening of an exhibition in Sligo City Hall\, Quay Street \, on Friday 7th November at 7.00 pm\, admission free. \nThe exhibition will present rare photographs \,documents on interpretive panels highlighting Cockran’s journey  from his early years in Sligo to his prominence as one of the most influential and admired Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives. \nThe following day \,Saturday 8th November \, Sligo Field Club Conference on William Bourke Cockran will take place in the Sligo Park Hotel\, bringing together historians\, scholars and members of the public to discuss Cockran’s extraordinary career and his significance in the story of Sligo \,Irish and Irish-American identity. \nThough widely admired in his lifetime\, his name has faded from public memory – a gap that we in Sligo seek to redress by reintroducing Sligo’s ‘ Forgotten Son’ to a new generation. \nWilliam Burke Cockran was made a Freeman of the Borough of Sligo in 1903 but due to an omission\, his name was never added to the Honour Roll of Freeman that is displayed in City Hall. Fortunately\, due to representations from Cllr Declan Bree & Cllr Dónal Gilroy\, Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council\, Burke Cockran’s name has now been added to this Honour Roll. A temporary Roll displaying the names of the Freemen of the Borough of Sligo is on display in City Hall for the length of the exhibition with a new permanent Honour Roll to be erected in the near future.
