SUMMARY:Angelina Carberry & Dan Brouder
DESCRIPTION:Head to the Coleman Centre in Gurteen for a special evening of vibrant and heartfelt traditional Irish music as Angelina Carberry and Dan Brouder take the stage. \nRenowned for her distinctive banjo playing\, Angelina Carberry brings a warm\, rhythmic style steeped in the rich musical heritage of Longford and Galway. Her deep respect for the tradition\, combined with her natural musicality\, has made her a leading figure in Irish music today. \nShe is joined by Dan Brouder\, a highly respected button accordionist from Abbeyfeale\, Co. Limerick. Known for his expressive playing and deep-rooted style\, Dan’s music is both soulful and uplifting\, perfectly complementing Angelina’s sparkling banjo lines. \nTogether\, this duo delivers lively dance tunes\, elegant melodies\, and a deep sense of tradition—creating a musical experience that is both timeless and deeply personal. \n  \nAngelina Carberry was born in Manchester\, England into a County Longford musical family steeped in traditional music. Starting on the tin whistle\, she later moved on onto the banjo following in the footsteps of her father Peter and Grandfather Kevin Carberry. Angelina moved to Galway in the late 90’s where she recorded the highly acclaimed album ‘Memories from the Holla’ with her father Peter on Accordion and John Blake on guitar and piano. \nOver the years\, Angelina has developed a highly personal style with unique rhythmical characteristics. Her unmistakable banjo sound is captured on her solo 2005 CD\, An Traidisún Beo & Pluckin’Mad 2014\, which were awarded among the Irish Echo’s Top 10 CD’S of the year. \nAngelina has recorded two duet albums with accordion player Martin Quinn in 2003 and A Waltz for Joy in 2017 with accordion player Dan Brouder. She also guested on Dan Brouder’s cd The Lark’s Air\, 2011 and accordion player Josephine Marsh’s\, 2018 cd Music in the Frame. \nIn addition to performing Angelina is also a respected music teacher and popular banjo tutor at many festivals throughout the country and abroad. She has taught master classes at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance\, University Limerick\, Scoil Eigse and the Willie Clancy Summer School and toured throughout Ireland\, Europe\, Japan\, and North America that included appearances at major festivals. \nAngelina has also played popular tv program’s series Fleadh Cheoil RTE\, Bosca Ceol\, Hup and Sé mo Laoch\,TG4. \nDan Brouder is a well-respected exponent of the West Limerick accordion style from Monagae\, a parish on the outskirts of Newcastle West. He learned his music in the surrounding parishes of Ardagh\, Carrigkerry and Glin on the Sliabbh Luachra boundary from accordion player Donal de Barra\, Athea Co. Limerick and from flute players Francis O’Connor and Donal O’Sullivan who learned their music from Peadlin Aherne\, fiddle player and Pajo Gleesen flute player from the 1930’s and 40’s and whose styles are strongly bedded in West Limerick roots. \nHe continued to learn a lot of music by ear in sessions all over Ireland. Dan plays regularly in sessions and festivals in both West Limerick and around the country. He has performed with various musicians at a number of festivals throughout the world (U.S.A.\, China\, Russia\, Spain\, France\, U.K.\, Austria\, Norway\, Holland\, Thailand\, Germany\, Brussels and Italy). \nHis influences down through the years have been Francis O’Connor\, Donal O’Sullivan\, Donnie Nolan\, Johnny O’Leary\, Finbar Dwyer\, Dermot Byrne and fiddle players Connie O’Connell\, Paddy Cronin\, Tommy Peoples\, James Cullinane and Tony Linnane. \nDan is a musician held in high regard among his peers for his musical integrity and the enjoyment he passes on through the music he plays and cherishes.

SUMMARY:Culture Night Sligo
DESCRIPTION:Sligo is set to come alive with music\, art\, theatre\, workshops and late-night experiences as Culture Night returns on Friday 19 September. More than 30 free events will take place across the county from 4pm until late\, celebrating local creativity and cultural diversity. \nHighlights include a multi-cultural celebration at The Model\, a moon-themed evening of poetry\, film and music at Yeats Society Sligo\, and Allta Creations’ roving street theatre\, The Púca Roams\, inspired by Irish folklore. Across the county\, visitors can experience a revival of ancient Irish annal-writing at Sligo Folk Park in Riverstown\, art and writing in the dramatic Gleniff Horseshoe (gRounded)\, and a surf culture celebration with Barry Britton in Strandhill (Tides of Expression). \nOther standout events range from traditional music in the medieval surrounds of Sligo Abbey (Sligo Soundscapes)\, to a powerful exhibition of The Hands of History bronze sculptures at Hawk’s Well Theatre\, and the feel-good community sing-along Sligo Sings at City Hall. \nThis year’s programme also features Culture Night Late\, supported by the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport in support of the Night-Time Economy initiative\, and delivered in partnership by Sligo BID and Sligo County Council. From 9pm\, audiences can enjoy a live music broadcast from The Model in partnership with RTÉ 2FM\, atmospheric performances in the Yeats Building’s Oak Moon garden café\, rising teenage bands at The Nest\, and an immersive late-night experience at Metalbox Workshop Collective on Adelaide Street\, offering a rare chance to explore this creative space at Image Framers after dark through film\, visual art and experimental music. \nFollowing an Open Call in late May\, Sligo Arts Service received 42 applications for Culture Night funding under three different categories: Flagship events\, Featured events and a countywide programme entitled Culture Wide. This year\, three Flagship events\, four Featured events and 22 Culture Wide events have been supported\, with approximately €25\,000 in funding committed to events. \nIn addition to the funded programme\, Sligo Arts Service will promote other independent events\, ensuring the night showcases the full range of cultural activity taking place in Sligo. \nCulture Night Sligo is funded by The Arts Council and delivered locally by Sligo County Council’s Arts Service. \nThe full Culture Night Sligo 2025 programme is available to see here.
