DESCRIPTION:Premier Irish-American fiddler\, performs with a skill\, grace and force that are steeped in tradition but distinctively his own. Well known in the Irish/Celtic community\, Conway has won numerous All-Ireland fiddling competitions\, and has been called one of the best fiddlers of his generation. Nothing is missed or missing in Brian Conway’s Sligo-style fiddling. \nNew York born fiddler Brian Conway is a leading exponent of the tastefully ornamented Sligo fiddling style made famous by the late Michael Coleman. The winner of two All- Ireland junior titles in 1973 and 1974 and the All-Ireland senior championship of 1986\, Brian’s early studies were with his father Jim of Plumbridge\, County Tyrone\, and with Limerick born fiddler/teacher Martin Mulvihill. \nHowever\, it was the legendary fiddler and composer Martin Wynne who taught him the real secrets of the County Sligo style. Later\, Brian met and befriended the great Andy McGann of New York\, a direct student of Michael Coleman\, who further shaped his precision and skill on the instrument. \nOn Friday\, August 14th 8pm \nAdmission: €20.

DESCRIPTION:Over 50 Traditional Crafts and Heritage Demonstrations to Feature at Tubbercurry Old Fair Day Festival 2026 \nAs Ireland celebrates Craft Month this August\, Tubbercurry Old Fair Day Festival returns with one of the country’s largest showcases of traditional skills and heritage\, bringing together more than 50 craft and heritage demonstrations on Old Fair Day\, Wednesday 12th August together with displays of vintage machinery\, crafts and live music. \nCelebrating 41 years since the revival of the traditional Fair Day in 1985\, the five-day festival (8–12 August) has grown into one of Ireland’s leading heritage events\, attracting visitors from across Ireland while also welcoming members of the diaspora back to Tubbercurry to reconnect with their roots and community. \nFrom basket weaving\, pottery\, ironmongery and thatching to wood turning\, butter making\, haymaking\, threshing and traditional musical instrument making\, visitors will have the opportunity to meet skilled craftspeople and heritage practitioners who continue to preserve and share these important traditions. \nRather than simply viewing exhibits\, visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in the experience. The Heritage and Craft Village offers opportunities to engage with demonstrators\, learn about traditional skills and gain a deeper understanding of Ireland’s rich cultural heritage. Families can also visit the Little Folks Fair\, where children can try their hand at traditional crafts\, creative activities and interactive workshops designed to inspire the next generation of makers and storytellers. Combined with artisan food producers\, vintage displays\, animal exhibits\, music and family entertainment\, the festival provides a unique opportunity to experience the traditions\, skills and community spirit that shaped rural Ireland for generations. \nFestival Chair Louise Kilbane said: “At the heart of the Tubbercurry Old Fair Day Festival is a commitment to preserving and celebrating our heritage. The crafts and demonstrations on display are not simply exhibitions; they are living traditions being passed from one generation to the next. The Youth Committee will organise the popular Family Fun Day and support activities throughout the festival\, helping to create opportunities for children and families to connect with local heritage through fun\, interactive experiences. \nThe highlight of the festival takes place on Wednesday 12th August when the streets of Tubbercurry are transformed into a bustling Fair Day experience featuring hundreds of exhibitors\, traditional craft and heritage demonstrations\, artisan food and craft stalls\, vintage machinery and vehicle displays\, children’s entertainment\, street performances and interactive family activities. Visitors can spend the day exploring the sights\, sounds and traditions of rural Ireland before enjoying a free outdoor concert in Wolfe Tone Square featuring one of Ireland’s most popular country music stars\, Jimmy Buckley and His Band. \nFamilies can enjoy the Little Folks Fair in St Brigid’s Hall\, featuring crafts\, workshops\, activities and a dedicated sensory area\, while visitors can also take part in dance workshops with South Sligo Summer School and Bróga Bríomhar Dance School. From freshly caught seafood to artisan breads and craft drinks\, the festival offers visitors a genuine taste of the region’s identity. \nAcross the weekend\, Queen Maeve’s Square transforms into an open-air food theatre. Visitors can wander between bustling artisan stalls and food trucks\, sampling everything from gourmet street food to locally distilled spirits. SUMMARY:Black Pig Festival Enniscrone
DESCRIPTION:Set along the sweeping Atlantic shoreline\, the Black Pig Festival is the heartbeat of summer in the seaside village of Enniscrone\, drawing locals and visitors together each year for a lively celebration of community\, culture and coastal life. Held at the end of July\, the festival transforms the town into a vibrant hub of music\, food and family-friendly entertainment. \nAt the centre of it all is a story. The festival takes its name from the legendary Black Pig of Muckdubh\, a mythical wild boar said to have rampaged from Donegal to Enniscrone before finally being slain by locals. According to folklore\, the creature was so enormous it had to be buried beneath a mound of earth\, giving the area its name and inspiring a tradition that lives on today. \nWhile its origins lie in myth\, the modern festival is anything but dark. It is a joyful\, energetic event that reflects the spirit of the town itself. Across several days\, Enniscrone comes alive with open-air concerts\, beach activities\, funfairs and community events. From sandcastle competitions and heritage walks to triathlons\, live music and fireworks over Killala Bay\, there is a strong sense of inclusivity\, with something for every age group. \nFood also plays a central role\, with events like the “Taste of Enniscrone” bringing together local producers and showcasing the best of the region’s flavours.
