SUMMARY:Declan Nerney Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Declan Nerney was born in the heart of Ireland in Drumlish Co. Longford\, at a unique period of time in the music scene worldwide. A revolution in rock and pop brought us The Beatles\, Elvis\, and the Rolling Stones\, while here in Ireland the magnificent show band boom was about to explode. \nA young man growing up at that time\, Declan was being heavily influenced by these greats and indeed was getting the rare opportunity to see most of the top show bands appear in his native town of Drumlish. \nHe would cajole his mother into seeing Joe Dolan\, Big Tom\, Philomena Begley\, The Capital Show band\, and many more perform when they appeared at the marquee at the end of May and early June. From his vantage point close to the stage\, he would absorb every move made by the guitarist in the bands\, watching his fingers slide along the strings\, hoping that one day he might be up there performing just like Dan O’Hara or Seamus McMahon. \nDeclan has went on to have a super career that has spanned over 4 decades at the top of Irish Country Music winning many accolades along the way and scoring countless hits with his catalogue of trademark songs. Join him and his super live band with special guests John McNicholl and John Hogan for a nostalgic night of music\, song and laughter on the 2024 Where’s the Party nationwide concert tour.

SUMMARY:David Munnelly\, Mick Conneely & Catriona Ni Cheannbhain
DESCRIPTION:David Munnelly (accordion) and Mick Conneely (fiddle)\, joined by special guest singer Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin\, will perform at the Coleman Music Centre in Gurteen on Saturday 27th April at 8.00pm. \n“Dave and Mick are master musicians no doubt about it\, they have the credentials: the track record\, the bands\, albums and collaborations\, but here you get more than just great musicianship\, you get a dialogue\, a conversation happening now\, not parroted lines from some slickly rehearsed ensemble\, that is the real excitement here. Cleary they have practice long and hard\, there are gaps and stops and changes of rhythm\, which the boys hit spot on\, but you’d be forgiven if you thought they’d just walked into the pub and played straight of the cuff.” – Seán Laffey \nTickets are €15 and can be booked by phone on 071 9182599 or on the Coleman Music Centre website here.

SUMMARY:Hothouse Flowers
DESCRIPTION:Something amazing happens when Hothouse Flowers step onto the stage – something that has been shaped by over thirty-five years of singing and playing all over the world\, yet no two shows have ever been the same! There is a sense of musical adventure\, an impulse to reach new heights and depths in music where the unspoken aim is that the band and the audience become one and the world becomes a different place for a while. \nThere is an unpredictable energy in the band that harkens back to their “Risk” days playing on the dancefloors of Dublin’s late-night clubs. They call upon their grand repertoire to create a show that is unique to the time and place. Improvisation can come at any point and allow the band to express their brightest and their darkest influences. “Rock and Roll is not about safety or politeness\, it is not about perfection either. It is expression and it is spirit.” Humour is also never far from a Hothouse Flowers night. They do not take themselves seriously however\, there is no mistaking the musical integrity among them as they open up to each other in musical dialogue. \nFiachna\, Liam and Peter are traditional musicians. This allows for moments of ancestral connection. From a Doors-like musical workout one minute\, to an earnest and timeless offering to the memory of Currachaí na Tra Báine the next. A song inherited by Fiachna describing the blow inflicted upon a community and a family due to drowning. This moment and moments like these set the Flowers apart from almost any other band of their time and trade. Their debut album\, ‘People’\, was the most successful debut album in Ireland ever! \nHothouse Flowers are a rock n’roll band\, Hothouse Flowers are a traditional band\, Hothouse Flowers are a soul band. Despite the bands lengthy career there is a sense of unfinished business. Every night they want to play the best gig they have ever played and take the musical risks that can maybe make that possible. There are still songs to be written and emotions to share. \nThe band was touring in Ireland\, the UK and on the festival circuit prior to the global pandemic and saw them reveal new material from their brand-new album Let’s Do This Thing which they released on www.hothouseflowers.com and on all digital platforms just as their touring plans were all put on hold. Throughout the pandemic Hothouse Flowers played an online concert at Dublin’s legendary Whelan’s music venue as well as appearing on the Late Late Show\, The Tommy Tiernan Show\, and as part of RTE TVs Ireland in Music and TradFest series. The band returned to their natural habitat in front of a live audience performing shows in Ireland such as the Galway Folk Festival and Forest Fest\, Glastonbury and Rewind in the UK\, The Comfort Festival in Italy\, The Zeltic Festival in Dudelange in Luxembourg among many more!

SUMMARY:By The Light Of The Silvery Moon - A Special Evening Of Irish Stories Told Through Words
DESCRIPTION:By the Light of the Silvery Moon featuring Bardic Irish Storyteller Aindrias de Staic is treading in the footsteps of the great Irish storytellers\, uncovering ancient pathways\, and heralding a new era of Irish storytelling. Strongly influenced by previous bards like Raifteri an Fhíle\, Brian Merriman and Aindrias MacCruitín\, this storytelling show is a contemporary take on the living tradition of storytelling. \nNationally and internationally\, there is a growing interest in Irish storytelling but something special is happening in the Southwest. While academics in UK and US have long regarded the Irish tradition of storytelling as one of the finest in the world of folk art\, only recently are we seeing the start of an interesting revival here at home. \nSince moving back to Clare to take over the family farm\, Aindrias de Staic has been researching and developing his own style of telling stories\, yarns\, folktales and excerpts from mythology. De Staic spent most of the pandemic in a caravan with no electricity\, just reading books by candlelight and listening to recordings of old musicians and storytellers made in the 1980s by his father Eddie Stack\, on a battery powered tape-recorder. \nReceiving a grant from the Arts Council in 2020 to research rhythm in Irish storytelling\, de Staic has found a winning combination in a new yet ancient bardic style which uses a rustic fiddle style to help drive the narrative. \nIt’s worth noting\, Aindrias’ father Eddie Stack had recorded a few short stories with fiddle player Martin Hayes in San Francisco in 1990’s long before Eddie took the role of Professor of Irish Studies at Berkley\, California\, so it’s no surprise the bardic style of violin and story is working well for a next generation Seanchaí. \nAindrias’ style is a fast paced\, lively new approach to the ancient Irish art form\, yet his work is firmly rooted in the traditional storytelling styles of the west of Ireland. By the Light of the Silvery Moon is a new experience in storytelling\, combining spoken word with guest musicians – harpist Aisling Lyons and percussionist Brian Fleming – collaborating live to add a sonic soundscape to the tales and performance. \nWell known for his work as a Presenter with TG4 and his comic appearances on Hardy Bucks\, Aindrias de Staic enjoys a cult following in rural Ireland for his ability to help audiences enjoy the full flavour of our traditional arts\, particularly storytelling and music. \nLeading a revival in new Irish storytelling\, Aindrias de Staic’s rhythmic and energetic approach to storytelling has won many awards\, including an All-Ireland medal at the Fleadh Cheoil in Mullingar and a Celtic Media Award 2018 in Wales.

SUMMARY:Rafeef Ziadah: Let it Be a Tale
DESCRIPTION:In memory of Palestinian poet and educator Refaat Alareer. \nPalestinian poet and spoken word artist Rafeef Ziadah brings her powerful catalogue of poetry to the stage featuring selections from her latest album “Three Generations” and earlier works from “We Teach Life“. \nWith original musical compositions by Phil Monsour\, this sequence of interconnected poems serves as a poignant and personal tribute to Palestine\, chronicling Al-Nakba\, exile\, defiance\, and survival. ‘Let it Be a Tale’ is a dedicated ode to Palestinian youth who still fly kites in the face of F16 bombers\, who still remember the names of their villages in Palestine and still hear the sound of doves over Gaza.

SUMMARY:Mary Gauthier - Special Guest Jaimee Harris
DESCRIPTION:“With songwriting as powerful as hers\, there’s no need to go looking for qualifiers. She’s a unique\, intrinsically valuable musical voice. And there’s never a surplus of those.” — Randy Lewis\, Los Angeles Time \nHer eleventh album\, the first record in over 8 years consisting of all her own songs\, Dark Enough to See the Stars\, follows the profound antidote to trauma\, Rifles & Rosary Beads\, her 2018 collaborative work with wounded Iraq war veterans. It garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album\, as well as a nomination for Album of the Year by the Americana Music Association. Publication of her first book\, the illuminating Saved by a Song: The Art and Healing Power of Songwriting\, in 2021\, brought her more praise. \nBrandi Carlile has said\, “Mary’s songwriting speaks to the tender aspects of our humanness. We need her voice in times like these more than we ever have.” The Associated Press called Gauthier “one of the best songwriters of her generation.” \nMary’s songs have been recorded by dozens of artists\, including Jimmy Buffett\, Dolly Parton\, Boy George\, Blake Shelton\, Tim McGraw\, Bettye Lavette\, Mike Farris\, Kathy Mattea\, Bobby Bare\, Amy Helm and Candi Staton and have appeared extensively in Film and Television\, most recently on HBO TV’s Yellowstone. \n“…from start to finish\, Gauthier masterfully makes the personal universal.”\n-The Associated Press \n“Mary Gauthier is known for her astute ability to share sentiments common to all\, even when those truths may be difficult to discern. She’s never shrunk from that responsibility as it applies to probing the depth of her soul in order to uncover those sentiments that may well resonate with others as well.”\n-American Songwriter \n“..these songs on Dark Enough to See the Stars resonate with emotions that many of us have felt in recent times but were unable to express nearly as well as Gauthier does.”\n-Glide Magazine \n““Fall Apart World\,” the track that opens Mary Gauthier’s new album\, Dark Enough to See the Stars\, might just be a perfect song…Gauthier’s album shines as one of the best of the year so far.”\n-No Depression \n“‘Dark Enough to See the Stars’ is certain to be a musical highlight of the year\, and another Gauthier classic to carry with us through the journey of life.”\n-Entertainment Focus \n“Under heartfelt wishes for no more pain or struggle\, and thoughts of reuniting beyond this mortal coil\, Dark Enough To See The Stars shows Mary Gauthier as a subtle\, evocative wordsmith at her peak. It’s a highly rewarding album.”\n-Holler \n“Dark Enough to See the Stars stands with her very best work. Just as her song “Mercy Now” has been covered by many artists\, this collection of ten songs has several that should endure for years to come. You may shed some tears\, recall fond memories of your own\, or simply just marvel at how Gauthier delivers so many poignant\, relatable emotions that most of us would be hard-pressed to express. Rarely does an album have so much emotional impact.”\n-Glide Magazine \n“From the opening number to the last\, the album is captivating\, leaving you in no doubt that you’re in the company of one of the great storytellers and songwriters of our age.”\n-Entertainment Focus

SUMMARY:Geppetto
DESCRIPTION:Geppetto is the story of a lonely old man\, who spends his days pottering in his repair shop\, half-heartedly fixing broken things\, and not being able to move on from his sadness. One night a mysterious and magical visitor comes to Geppetto’s shop and with fun and laughter begins to bring him out of his lonely existence. Geppetto’s new friend leads him into a world full of hope before giving him one last gift – one story’s end is just another story’s beginning. \nGeppetto is a non-verbal production\, featuring physical comedy\, puppetry\, mime and music. \nThis is a Relaxed Performance. This means the show has been adapted to suit people who might require a more relaxed environment when going to the theatre. Usually\, these are adults or children with learning difficulties\, autism or sensory communication disorders. \nOur Chill-out room will be available for both performances\, for those who wish to avail of a quiet space. \nShow Duration: 50 minutes \nBook tickets at Hawk’s Well Theatre Box Office on 071 916 1518 (Mon – Wed\, 10am – 2pm\, Thurs – Fri 10am – 5.30pm) or www.hawkswell.com.
