DESCRIPTION:Jack Butler Yeats; A Painted Universe\nSat. 15 Nov. – Sun. 27 Sep. 2026\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJack Butler Yeats (1871–1957) is one of Ireland’s most celebrated twentieth-century artists. The Niland Collection\, housed at The Model\, holds an extensive body of his work spanning the full arc of his career – from early pen-and-ink illustrations and lively watercolours\, to the expressive oil paintings that define his mature style. \nYeats belonged to one of Ireland’s most remarkable artistic families. His father\, John Butler Yeats (1839–1922)\, was a portrait painter\, while his siblings – William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)\, Susan Mary Yeats (1866–1949) and Elizabeth Corbet Yeats (1868–1940) – were all distinguished figures in literature\, art and publishing. Unlike them\, Jack spent his childhood in Sligo with his maternal grandparents\, Elizabeth and William Pollexfen. The vivid life of the town and its people left a deep and lasting impression on him. From an early age\, he was captivated by the colour and drama of everyday life – a fascination that became the foundation of his art. \nThroughout his career\, Yeats returned to the people and scenes of his youth – the sailor\, the clown\, the traveller and the balladeer\, amongst others. Over time\, these subjects came to embody universal human experience in his work. His shift to oil painting from 1910 onwards marked a turning point. The early oils\, grounded in realism\, depict ordinary lives and the social and political world of early twentieth-century Ireland. From the mid-1920s\, however\, his art grew increasingly expressive and symbolic\, as the paint itself became a means to convey emotion and transcendence. \nIn his later works – charged with pathos and intensity – familiar figures take on a metaphysical dimension\, revealing Yeats’s lifelong quest to paint not only the world he saw\, but the inner universe he felt. A Painted Universe invites visitors to encounter these presences and step into Yeats’s artistic world\, where memory\, emotion and experience are transformed into colour\, form and light.

The 11-piece band features band leader Philip Duffy (fiddle)\, Mossie Martin\, John Kilkenny\, Declan Folan (on fiddles)\, June McCormack\, Noelle Carroll and Cian Kearins (on flutes)\, Sean Carroll (Button Accordion)\, Michael Rooney (Concertina)\, Kevin Brehony (Piano)\, Damien Mc Guinness (Drums)\, with Noelle Carroll & Cian Kearins (Vocals). \nTheir first album\, ‘The Killavil Post’\, received excellent reviews not only in Ireland but also in the UK and in the United States. It strongly reflected its North Connacht roots and included a variety of trad selections including songs from their extremely talented singers\, Cian Kearins and Noelle Carroll. The Dartry released their second album ‘Making Tracks’ in 2014 which again received excellent reviews throughout the world. \nThe Dartry has appeared on many broadcasts over the years including RTÉ’s ‘The Late Late Show’\, on TV3’s Morning Ireland and TG4’s Geantraí Christmas Night Special. They have also had a full Céilí House programme on RTÉ Radio 1 dedicated to their music. \nThey were invited by The President Michael D. Higgins to perform at Áras an Uachtaráin and have also been invited to travel to perform in the United States where they received a terrific response. \nThe Dartry played to one of its biggest audiences\, when it provided the music for the annual St. Patrick’s weekend Céilí Mór on St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin\, where the band played to in excess of 10\,000 revellers. Other particularly memorable appearances include the band’s open-air performances at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Sligo and in Dublin over Easter weekend outside the National Concert Hall as part of the official 1916 Centenary Celebrations. \n‘Dance Upon The Mountains’ is the third collaborative album from The Dartry Céilí Band from County Sligo\, having previously released ‘Making Tracks’ in 2014 and ‘The Killavil Post’ in 2010. Both previous albums received superb reviews nationally and internationally. Since their formation in 2007\, the band has risen to prominence in Ireland and are regarded as one of the finest Céilí Bands in the country.

They can only allow non-electric wheelchairs on the ice due to health & safety. \nDo I need prior experience?\nNo prior experience is needed! This is a family fun rink \nDo you have Skating Aids for Kids\nYes\, we have small polar bear chairs which an adult can push while the child can sit on. These are on a first come first served basis and only available to children \nHow long do Sessions last?\nAll sessions last 45 minutes and will start on the hour. \nIs there a Carers rate?\nCarers go free with a carers card. \nWhat age groups (& Children Age) do you cater for?\nThere is no minimum age\, but kids must be of an age so they are able to walk prior to trying to skate\, use a skate polar bear (skating aid) or being able to use double blades over their shoes. \nWhat Skate Sizes do you have?\nWe have a skate size Child & Adult to suit all foot sizes. \nWe will also have a small number of double blades for kids (this are strap on double blades that go over their shoes)\, which means it’ll be like walking on the ice for very young children. \nWhat should I wear for ice skating?\nWear warm clothes\, gloves\, and thick socks. We provide skates\, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. \nWhere do I purchase tickets?\nTo ensure you get a ticket to the session you require\, we’d recommend you purchase online via the ticketing site here. You may also purchase at the box office at the ice rink. \nThey accept cash & all cards. \nPolar Bear Ice Chairs\nIf you wish to be Guaranteed a Polar Bear Chair then please purchase one with your ticket. Alternatively\, they have a small number of Polar Bear Ice Chairs which are free to use for all but on first come first served basis.
