SUMMARY:The Shadow of a Gunman
DESCRIPTION:In the spring of 2024\, Druid will tour Ireland with Sean O’Casey’s classic play The Shadow of a Gunman. \nSet against the backdrop of the Irish War of Independence\, and by turns tragic and comic\, O’Casey’s The Shadow of a Gunman is the tale of an ambitious young woman who dreams of a life beyond her Dublin tenement with the mysterious neighbour downstairs. \nDirected by Garry Hynes\, The Shadow of a Gunman features Druid Ensemble members Rory Nolan and Marty Rea\, alongside Gabriel Adewusi\, Clare Barrett\, Caitríona Ennis\, Bosco Hogan\, Sean Kearns\, Robbie O’Connor and Catherine Walsh. \nThis five-star production was first produced in 2023 as part of DruidO’Casey\, Druid’s play cycle of Sean O’Casey’s Dublin Trilogy\, which also includes The Plough and the Stars and Juno and the Paycock. \nDruidO’Casey broke box office records when it was announced in early 2023 and sold out weeks in advance so early booking is strongly recommended for this national tour of The Shadow of a Gunman. \nAge suitability: 12+ \nPlease note that this production features depictions of violence and war\, with gunshots and loud noises. \n★★★★★ ‘a revelation … magnificent’ The Observer \n★★★★★ ‘Druid triumphs yet again … spectacular’ Irish Mail on Sunday \n★★★★★ ‘a thrilling experiment in epic theatre’ New York Stage Review \n★★★★★ ‘brilliant … astonishing … perfection’ Front Row Center \nWINNER – Garry Hynes\, Best Director\, UK Theatre Awards \nImages © Ross Kavanagh

SUMMARY:Looking Forward\, Looking Back Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Looking Forward\, Looking Back presents an opportunity for visitors to explore new acquisitions\, alongside some much loved favourites\, from Sligo Municipal Art Collection. \nThe Niland Collection was founded by former Sligo County Librarian Nora Niland in 1960\, and was carefully cultivated by Niland from then until her retirement in 1979. Niland’s vision was to establish a world standard art collection for County Sligo\, anchored by the works of Jack Butler Yeats. Through networking\, petitioning\, fundraising and a driving passion for visual art\, Niland laid the groundwork for the Sligo municipal collection which today bears her name. \nThe Model is delighted to have expanded The Niland Collection with many new works over recent years through purchases\, donations and long-term loans. Looking Forward\, Looking Back\, inspired by the title of a Jack Butler Yeats painting\, showcases works by artists including Mary Kelly\, Michael Wann\, Brian O’Doherty\, Walter Osbourne\, Charles Lamb and Jack Butler Yeats\, all of which have joined the collection in recent years.

SUMMARY:The Felice Brothers
DESCRIPTION:The Felice Brothers first emerged from the Hudson Valley nearly two decades ago with a gloriously ramshackle sound that drew on everything from Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan to Walt Whitman and Flannery O’Connor. In just a few short years\, the group went from busking in the subway to playing Radio City Music Hall with Bright Eyes and appearing everywhere from the Newport Folk Festival to Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble.\n Beginning with 2007’s Tonight At The Arizona\, the band helped pave the way for the modern folk revival\, while at the same time challenging its boundaries and conventions with bold sonic experimentation and unyielding integrity. The New York Times likened their music to “the rootsy mysticism of the Band\,” while Rolling Stone praised the “scrappiness” of their “folk-rock noir\,” and The Guardian hailed their songs as “impeccably crafted\, with literary-minded lyrics that are both playful and profound.” \n The band’s newest record\, Valley of Abandoned Songs\, marks The Felice Brothers’ debut for Conor Oberst’s new Million Stars label and showcases the group at their most intimate and unvarnished. Balancing hope and despair in equal measure\, the album explores the search for meaning and connection through the eyes of a wide-ranging cast of misfits and outcasts\, and though the recordings here span several years of almost-lost tunes\, the result is a thoroughly cohesive collection that manages to feel both utterly timeless and particularly attuned to the present all at once.

SUMMARY:Silent by Pat Kinevane
DESCRIPTION:SILENT is the touching and challenging story of homeless McGoldrig\, who once had splendid things. But he has lost it all – including his mind. He now dives into the wonderful wounds of his past through the romantic world of Rudolph Valentino. Dare to laugh at despair and gasp at redemption in this brave\, bleak\, beautiful production for which Fishamble and Pat Kinevane won an Olivier Award in 2016.

SUMMARY:I Can't Believe It's Not Ireland
DESCRIPTION:Duration: 150 Mins Age: 16+\n Join Paddy on a hilariously insightful journey through the history of partition and the Ireland of the future…\n Imagine this. It’s 2032. The people have spoken on both sides of the border and Ireland is a brand new 32-county country. There’s a new flag. A new anthem. There’s even a new capital! As Unionists holiday in the south\, discovering the imperial joys of ‘Royal’ Dublin – southerners discover the ancient landscape of Ulster beyond the retail outlets of Newry and Titanic Belfast. Magical things happen when you create a new country – where EVERYTHING is on the table – and it’s exciting.\n Leave all your preconceptions at the door. It’s not a United Ireland. It’s not an ‘agreed’ Ireland. It’s not ‘shared’ – nor is it ‘new’. It’s simply- ‘I can’t believe it’s not Ireland’! But first…we have to get there….
