Scenius Gallery presents Natura, a new solo exhibition of paintings and drawings by Sligo-based artist Tina Brooks, running from 24 August to 11 September 2026.
Natura takes its title from the EU’s Natura 2000 network, which designates Strandhill and its surrounding coastline as part of the Cummeen Strand/Drumcliff Bay (Sligo Bay) Special Area of Conservation, protecting its shifting dunes, mudflats and estuary along with the wintering seabirds, waterfowl and harbour seals that depend on them.
The paintings and drawings gathered here move across this protected ground through the seasons, from storm-lit seas and dune grasses to hedgerows, stubble fields and quiet upland pasture, tracing a landscape that is at once wild, worked and legally safeguarded.
Tina Brooks lives and works in Strandhill, Co. Sligo. Her paintings are built from direct observation of the peninsula and its weather, worked up in the studio through repeated layers of paint laid down and scraped back. Her work has been purchased by Sligo Institute of Technology and the Office of Public Works, and can be found in collections throughout Europe, America, Japan and Ireland.
