Shaskeen is a legendary Irish traditional band whose journey spans over five decades of preserving and innovating Ireland’s rich musical heritage. Formed in 1970 in the historic setting of the Oxford Tavern, Kentish Town, London, the band has established itself as a cornerstone of Irish music, renowned for their captivating performances and deep cultural roots.
At its inception, the band was led by the dynamic Tom Cussen, whose passion and leadership have been pivotal in shaping Shaskeen’s distinctive style. Today, the band boasts an accomplished lineup comprising Eamonn Cotter on Concert Flute, Patsy McDonagh on Accordion, Alan Wallace on Guitar & Bass, Tom Cussen on Banjo and Mandolin, Dave Sanders on Fiddle, Viola, Vocals and Mandolin, Deirdre Scanlan, main vocalist and Guitar, Johnny Donnellan on Bodhrán and Vocals, Mary Liddy, Concertina and Vocals, and helping at this time Yvonne Flynn on Fiddle.
