The Influence of Irish Culture in Modern Europe

November 12

Influence of modern culture (1200 x 800 px)

As part of the European Presidency Cultural Calendar, this special event will explore the profound and lasting impact of Irish culture on modern Europe.

Ireland’s literary, artistic and cultural traditions have shaped European thought and creativity for centuries. This engaging panel discussion brings together leading voices from the worlds of literature, culture and the arts to examine how Irish culture continues to influence contemporary Europe and how that influence remains relevant today.

The discussion will be chaired by former RTÉ News Anchor Bryan Dobson and will feature contributions from Professor Margaret Kelleher, Professor and Chair of Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama at UCD; Darina Gallagher, Director of the James Joyce Centre, Dublin; and award-winning poet Billy Ramsell.

Taking place in the historic Methodist Church on Wine Street, Sligo, this free event offers an opportunity for audiences to hear expert insights, engage with important cultural themes and participate in a wider conversation about Ireland’s place in Europe’s cultural landscape.

Whether you have an interest in literature, history, culture, politics or contemporary society, this promises to be a thought-provoking and enlightening evening.
