North West Surf School is based in Enniscrone Co. Sligo and was set up in 2006. It is run and owned by Shane Lavelle and his Family. Shane grew up in the area and all instructors are from the Enniscrone area.
At North West Surf School Enniscrone they offer surf lessons, surf board and wetsuit rentals and summer camps.
They are open from April to November depending on conditions. They offer surf lessons to individuals or groups, kids to adults. Birthday parties, School tours, Scouts, Girl Guides, Family parties, Stags and Hens etc.
They also run surf camps all through the summer months for kids of 8 years up and Adults that want to turn back the years and feel like kids again. The beach provides ideal conditions for novice to intermediate surfers.
Summer Surf Camps
The Surf Camps run all through the summer. Every week (Monday to Friday) from mid June until the end of August. They ask that you arrive 15min early for fitting of wetsuit. During the surf camp you will be learning the basic skills of surfing and learning about beach safety. They keep their groups small so every student gets the attention they need.
Camp Times (Subject to change)
- 10:30 – 12:30
- 11:00 – 13:00
- 14:30 – 16:30
- 15:00 – 17:00
The basic skills taught include:
- Paddling
- Catching waves and Popping up
- Board control and Turning
- Traversing white water
- Beach and Water Safety
- Lesson duration 2 hours x 5 days
- Minimum Age Requirement 8 years
- Must be able to swim.
- All equipment is provided
- Max 8 students per instructor. Spaces are limited!

All instructors have been Garda vetted and certified by Irish Surfing Association (ISA) North West Surf School is Registered with the Irish Surfing Association and has been an ISA approved surf school since they set up in 2006.
