About Jenn McKee – founder of West Coast Wellness:
“Over the years I have opened myself up to many experiences that have shaped the way I share, work, and play – experiences that have influenced my vision for West Coast Wellness.
Growing up in Colorado meant I had the great outdoors at my doorstep and ensured that I would always have a deep love for nature and movement. After high school, I attended Humboldt State University in California for my Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology as I have a deep interest in understanding and optimizing the mind-body connection (and I immediately fell in love with the redwood forests surrounding campus). After graduating, I went straight to graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania to pursue my Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree, which gave me an incredible perspective on how the human body works and on the healing power of movement.
Once my degree was finished I took the opportunity to visit my family in Ireland. What was meant to be a few months turned into a few years, and I happily found myself living there and immersing myself in research and teaching with the University of Limerick while starting my own Physiotherapy practice, West Coast Wellness, in my small village, Enniscrone. During that time I also began travelling throughout Ireland, the UK, and mainland Europe teaching seminars and workshops for clinicians related to postural care with my mentor. I am still deeply involved in clinical education – you can learn more about our clinical education and professional development services here.
In 2021 I took advantage of the increased accessibility of online certifications and trainings. I became a Certified Pre- and Postnatal Coach (CPPC) through Girls Gone Strong and completed my first 200-hour YTT in Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga with Sampoorna Yoga after over ten years of developing my own personal yoga practice. As Enniscrone had no established yoga studio or services, I soon started teaching yoga on Enniscrone Beach and felt a tremendous amount of support from the community. I fell in love immediately.
That’s when West Coast Wellness became so much more than a physiotherapy practice – it became a space for collaboration, a space where people can access wellness services, resources, and inspiration to live a healthy and fulfilled life.
Towards the end of 2021 I felt a calling to learn more. That calling brought me to Ecuador with a one-way ticket and no real plans or desires other than to fully surrender and allow myself to go with the flow. I completed another 200-hour YTT, this time with Durga’s Tiger School focusing on Shamanism and Kaula Tantra Yoga. This experience changed my life and has allowed me to change the lives of others in ways I never knew possible. After a year of sharing yoga and meditation with those I met while travelling and living in South America, I’m back home in Ireland with a desire to share, grow, and connect. Since completing an Ayurvedic Massage training in Peru, I have began to integrate massage treatments into my offerings in Enniscrone for physical, emotional, and mental wellness.
I have shifted my frame of thinking from the westernised medical model that I was educated in to be more holistic – to see every person as more than just the sum of their body parts.
I am grateful to now be able to offer holistic consultations for clients who would have traditionally come to me for physiotherapy, and to be able to share what I love to help others reach decrease pain, stress, tension, and all else that no longer serves them while supporting all of the beautiful humans in the Enniscrone yoga and wellness community.”
