Kiwi Girl Mullaghmore Wins prestigious Outsider Award for Irelands Best Outdoor Experience

Kiwi Girl Mullaghmore Wins prestigious Outsider Award for Irelands Best Outdoor Experience

Sligo’s Kiwi Girl Boat Tours has been named Irelands Best Outdoor Experience at the prestigious Outsider Irish Outdoor Experience Awards, a major national recognition celebrating the very best in outdoor adventure and nature-based tourism in Ireland.

The award, presented by Outsider.ie, recognises exceptional experiences that connect people with Ireland’s landscapes, coastlines and outdoor culture. Kiwi Girl’s win places it among the leading outdoor tourism experiences in the country and highlights Sligo’s growing reputation as a premier coastal destination on the Wild Atlantic Way.

According to Outsider, “Kiwi Girl Mullaghmore brings the raw beauty and wildlife of Ireland’s northwest coastline to life through unforgettable sea adventures departing from Mullaghmore Harbour, Co. Sligo. Operating aboard the R.V. Kiwi Girl, skipper Declan Kilgannon leads small groups into Donegal Bay and the open Atlantic, where guests regularly encounter Irelands Mega Fauna including dolphins, whales, seabirds, and some of Ireland’s most dramatic coastal scenery.”

Outsider further praised the experience for blending adventure with local knowledge, offering everything from family-friendly wildlife cruises to big-game fishing trips targeting species such as blue shark and bluefin tuna, both of which are part of ongoing research programmes.

Guests also explore hidden coves and iconic coastal landmarks gaining a unique perspective of Ireland’s wild Atlantic edge through authentic storytelling and expert guiding.

Showcasing Sligo’s Coastal Adventure Offering

Kiwi Girl’s success reflects the exceptional quality and diversity of water-based experiences across County Sligo, from world-class surfing in Strandhill, Rosses Point and Enniscrone, to sea swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding on Lough Gill, and tranquil lake and river experiences in South Sligo. Mullaghmore, in particular, has emerged as a standout hub for marine wildlife encounters and ocean adventure.

This award reinforces Sligo’s position as a leading outdoor destination, offering visitors thrilling Atlantic experiences alongside tranquil inland waterways, all set within the dramatic landscapes of the Wild Atlantic Way.

A Proud Moment for Sligo

Speaking on the announcement, Declan Kilgannon from Kiwi Girl said:
“We are so proud of this recognition for our work on Kiwi Girl and for Sligo generally. It recognises the passion, professionalism and authenticity that define our experience and it showcases the quality of outdoor tourism available in our county.”

Kiwi Girl Boat Tours’ national recognition is a proud milestone for Sligo’s tourism sector and a testament to the county’s rich natural assets, skilled operators and growing appeal to adventure seekers from Ireland and abroad.
