Jack Kennedy is the Owner, Operator, and Tour Guide at Outback Jack’s Surf Guide. As a certified Level 2 surf coach with the Irish Surfing Association, BSAC snorkel instructor, and a beach lifeguard with the Royal Lifesaving Society UK since 2015, he brings a wealth of experience to your adventures.
His passion for the ocean and marine life has been a lifelong journey, an obsession for as long as he can remember.
It all started with foraging for mussels and cockles with his grandparents at the nearby estuaries of Kellystown, Co. Sligo. These early experiences taught him about the rhythm and flow of the tides and the delicate art of navigating the silt without getting trapped, all while uncovering the diverse creatures that call the estuaries home.
From shaping his career to fuelling his wanderlust, surfing has given him more than he ever imagined. It’s a gateway to new experiences, diverse cultures, and unforgettable moments. More than just a sport, it’s a mental and physical journey set against the ever-changing unpredictable embrace of the ocean.
He has always believed that surfing isn’t just about riding waves—it’s about understanding connecting and immersing yourself in the ocean, pushing your limits, and enjoying the ride along the way.
After years of coaching around the world, he wanted to create a place that focused on exactly that. So in 2021, he launched Outback Jack’s Surf Guide.
Founded in 2021, OBJsurf was created to help surfers have more Fun, Gain vital knowledge about how the ocean works, and most importantly, Improve their confidence in any situation that may arise while surfing or in the ocean while enjoying the stoke (magic) of surfing.

About Strandhill
Strandhill is a remarkable village that boasts world class surf condition, a world class links golf course, a beautiful beach, stunning landscape and gorgeous cafes, bars and restaurants. It is home to the National Surf Centre where you can enjoy a hot shower, clean changing facilities and book surf lessons. They have a fabulous room available for hire that is ideal for corporate groups with a stunning sea view.
It’s name in Irish is An Leathros which loosely translates as ‘The half promontory’ and it is just a short distance from Sligo town. You can hop on the S2 bus which connects it with Sligo town and on to Rosses Point village. Sligo Airport is based here along with remote working hubs and festivals and events regularly held throughout the year.
This is a fantastic coastal seaside location and always popular with families. Please note that swimming is forbidden on Strandhill beach due to the extremely dangerous rip tides.
