Step Into Sligo on the Castle to Cave Camino – 18 April 2026

A Signature Walking Experience Through the Heart of County Sligo

Details for the 2026 Castle to Cave Camino have been announced with news that it is taking place on Saturday, 18 April 2026. This much‑loved walking event invites participants to immerse themselves in one of County Sligo’s most atmospheric landscapes, following a 34km looped trail that showcases the rich heritage, folklore and natural beauty of the south‑east of the county.

Beginning at Knockoconnor, Keash, the Camino leads walkers along historic trail roads and through a series of remarkable locations including near the Caves of Keash, Templevanny, Corricknahorna, Aughanagh, Ballinafad, Bunnadubber and Limnagh Bog.

The route offers sweeping views over Lough Arrow, Ballinafad Castle, and the Curlieu Mountains, creating a deeply memorable journey through Sligo’s ancient cultural landscape.

The Castle to Cave Camino is designed as a fully supported full‑day experience. Participants will enjoy:

  • A professionally managed walking route with marshals and support teams
  • Designated rest stops with refreshments
  • Access to some of Sligo’s most iconic heritage and archaeological sites
  • A warm community welcome at the Eastern Harps GAA Clubhouse on return

Registration Now Open

Places for the 2026 Castle to Cave Camino are now available, and early registration is strongly encouraged due to high demand in previous years. Walkers of all experience levels are welcome, though a good level of fitness is recommended for this full‑day challenge.

Participants are also encouraged to plan a full Sligo break around the event using the Visit Sligo Ideas Engine itinerary generator, which helps visitors build personalised itineraries across the county’s attractions, trails, towns and coastal experiences.

A Journey Through Time, Terrain and Tradition

The Castle to Cave Camino offers more than a walk — it is an opportunity to step into Sligo’s story, connect with its landscapes, and experience the warmth of its communities. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or simply seeking a meaningful adventure, this is a day that promises inspiration, challenge and unforgettable views.
