Enniscrone Golf Club wins prestigious golf course of the year award for 2025
Enniscrone Golf Club has been crowned Irish Golf Course of the Year for 2025, having been named as the winner at the Golf Course Awards held at the Emirates Stadium, London, last Friday evening.
The award represents another milestone for the club, which was founded in 1918 has since expanded into a 27-hole offering along the shores of Killala Bay, along with a driving range, short game area, pro shop and a spacious clubhouse.
The Dunes Championship course has matured into one of Ireland’s top links courses, with its rugged terrain taking golfers on a memorable journey through the towering golden dunes.
Thousands of visitors from all over the world descend on Enniscrone in peak season, while the club is also well-served by a loyal and committed membership who help foster a warm and welcoming atmosphere for members and visitors alike.
The Dunes Championship Course officially opened in 2001, after six new additional holes designed by Martin Ebert and Donald Steel were added to the 18-hole layout created by Eddie Hackett in the 1970s.
Enniscrone has hosted top amateur events over the years, including both the Irish Men’s and Women’s Close Championship and the West of Ireland Championship.
Having received news of the award, Enniscrone GC’s General Manager Keith O’Neill said: “We are incredibly proud to be named Ireland’s Golf Course of the Year.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of our entire team — from our staff to the many volunteers who have contributed so much over the years.
“Their commitment to excellence has helped shape the course into what it is today.”
Enniscrone GC Chairperson Martha McNulty added: “The club has developed significantly over the last number of years and this award is a testament to the contribution of all involved.”
Determined to advance its reputation even further, Enniscrone is currently implementing subtle changes as advised by McKenzie and Ebert with a view to enhancing the Dunes Championship course even further.’
