Sligo Welcomes Isla Health’s European Headquarters and New High-Value Jobs

Sligo and the wider North West have received a significant vote of confidence with the announcement that Isla Health has selected Ireland as the location for its new European headquarters, establishing its hub in Sligo. The decision marks a major milestone for both the fast-growing digital health company and the region, bringing high-value employment, innovation and global reach to the local economy.

Isla Health’s expansion is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland and reflects the company’s ambition to build on its strong momentum in the UK and accelerate its growth across Europe and beyond. Over the next three years, the investment will see the creation of 20 high-value roles in Ireland, strengthening the region’s reputation as a destination for technology-driven, knowledge-intensive industries. There are currently three live roles based in Sligo with further opportunities expected over time, highlighting and reinforcing Sligo’s growing digital and health tech proposition.

Isla Health is the company behind the Digital Pathway Platform (DPP), a technology that has already become a trusted tool for clinicians in the UK NHS and Irish hospitals. The platform allows healthcare providers to automate administrative tasks and manage patient care remotely, improving efficiency while enhancing the patient experience. Establishing a European headquarters in Ireland positions Isla to take this impact to a global stage, with Sligo at the centre of that journey.

The new Irish hub will focus on software engineering, clinical informatics and product management, forming the backbone of Isla Health’s international research and development and customer success operations. This concentration of high-skilled roles reflects both the company’s needs and the depth of talent available in the region, as well as Ireland’s strong track record in digital health and life sciences.

The announcement has been warmly welcomed at national level by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke:

“Isla Health’s decision to establish its European headquarters in Ireland highlights our country’s reputation as a hub for innovation and talent. This investment not only strengthens Ireland’s position in the digital health sector but also creates valuable new opportunities for our people and supports this Government’s commitment to balanced regional development.”

From Isla Health’s perspective, the move reflects confidence in Ireland and in Sligo as a place to build the next phase of the company’s growth. Peter Hansell, CEO and Co-founder of Isla Health, said:

“I’m thrilled to be able to begin the next phase of our work with Isla in Ireland. We are seeing a tremendous impact within the UK NHS and with several Irish hospitals, so now is the time to extend that impact internationally with the launch of our new base in Sligo.”

That ambition is closely aligned with the company’s mission to reshape how healthcare is delivered. Isla’s Digital Pathway Platform supports a “patient-as-partner” model of care, enabling patients to securely share digital media such as photos, sound recordings and videos of symptoms from their own homes. This approach reduces unnecessary travel, shortens waiting times and gives clinicians access to real-time information, helping them deliver the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

James Jurkiewicz, CTO and Co-founder of Isla Health, highlighted both the technical and societal impact of locating the hub in Ireland:

“Ireland’s technical talent is the perfect foundation for our team as we work to support the country’s healthcare evolution. We’re focused on making care easier to deliver. Our Irish hub will continue to develop the Digital Pathway Platform (DPP) to simplify complex clinical workflows, handling the heavy lifting of admin so that clinicians can keep their focus where it belongs, on the patient. This isn’t just about technology; it’s about building a scalable infrastructure for the future of European healthcare.”

Beyond clinical benefits, Isla’s technology also delivers measurable sustainability gains by reducing patient and clinician travel. By digitising the patient journey, the platform has already saved millions of travel miles internationally, supporting healthcare providers in meeting ambitious carbon-neutral targets. This combination of innovation, impact and sustainability aligns strongly with Ireland’s strategic priorities in health, climate action and regional development.

Michael Lohan, CEO of IDA Ireland, welcomed the announcement:

“I am pleased to welcome today’s announcement by Isla Health which is set to bring valuable investment and high-skilled jobs. This announcement demonstrates further the North West’s growing reputation as a centre for technology and innovation and IDA Ireland looks forward to working with Isla Health as they grow their presence here.”

The investment represents not only new jobs, but the establishment of a centre of excellence where Irish-led innovation will be developed and exported to healthcare systems around the world. For Sligo, it is a clear signal that the region is open for business, competing confidently on a global stage.
