Sligo St. Patricks Day Festival 2024

Sligo St. Patrick’s Festival presents two days and nights of live music in Queens Maeve’s Square in Sligo Town this weekend, 16th- 17th March.

Roll on the weekend!

The St. Patricks Day Festival 2024 boasts a number of amazing acts, activities and events taking place across Sligo Town from 16th-17th March 2024. The Parade will start at 12pm on St Patricks Day on Mail Coach Rd, travelling around the town and finishing on Teeling St. This years parade theme is “The Wild Atlantic Way”, a celebration of 10 years of the Wild Atlantic Way!

There will be a Parade quiet zone once again on Quay St (at the end of the Taxi rank), running around to the back of the Glasshouse Hotel where there will be minimal noise for anyone who may prefer this space.

The Six Nations Live Game Ireland V Scotland will be playing on the big screen at 4.45pm and there will be live music in Queen Maeve Square from 6pm Saturday evening and from 2.30pm Sunday. Notable acts playing over the weekend include King Kong Company playing in from 9pm on Saturday 16th March and The North West Suite World Premier and Jenny Greene on Sunday 17th March. Admission is €5 and U8 are free.

The Sligo St Patrick’s Festival Committee have announced the world premiere of ‘The North West Suite,’ a unique collaboration between the Ceol na nOg Traditional Orchestra and the Sligo Academy of Music Sinfonietta. This ground-breaking performance will take place on St Patricks Day at 2:30 pm, immediately following the festival parade, in Queen Maeve Square.

Under the skilled supervision of Niamh Crowley and Stephen Doherty, both orchestras will unite for the first time to perform an arrangement of music from the NorthWest Suite, composed by Stephen and expertly arranged by both Stephen and Niamh. The project will also include the production of a video in advance of the inaugural performance, providing a captivating preview of the musical extravaganza.

The collaboration will feature over 100 talented youth musicians from both orchestras, offering a diverse range of musical instruments and styles that promise to deliver a truly unique and memorable Sligo presentation. The live performance in Queen Maeve Square is set to enchant and captivate audiences, showcasing the incredible talent of our local young musicians.
